Masons"We've been making all kinds of labels for over 100 years. Pictured left is my Great Great Grandfather, (FE Mason), my Great Uncle (Roy Mason), and my Great Grandfather (Max Mason Sr).

The family started making labels in 1907" - Jeff Bertrand

JH Bertrand’s clinical booklet label division was born in 2001 when a New Jersey Clinical Trial Supplies Company, Almedica, formed a partnership with JHB to exclusively to have JHB produce booklet labels for them. JH Bertrand was already manufacturing a healthy volume of pharmaceutical booklet label work, but didn’t have clinical experience.  Almedica’s quality department spent extensive time training JH Bertrand’s quality team to understand exactly what was needed to support clinical labeling. “Almedica’s executives and quality team were some of the finest people I had ever met,” comments Jeff Bertrand. “Right from the beginning, I knew we had something very special with Almedica. They were so generous with their time and really taught us the business. ”  The partnership ran like clockwork for the next 4 years with JH Bertrand producing hundreds of medium to high volume clinical booklet label projects for Almedica which by extension included some of the top pharmaceutical companies in the world.

In 2005, Almedica was purchased by Aptuit. JH Bertrand maintained a strong relationship with Aptuit, but was also given the option of offering its services to other clinical companies.  “We had a number of companies in the clinical space ask us to do business with them, but we couldn’t because of our exclusive contract with Almedica,” explains Jeff Bertrand. “With that said, there was no pressure to go anywhere else. Almedica provided a solid volume of work and was such a joy to work with.”  Unfortunately, the workflow changed with the merger so JH Bertrand took Aptuit up on its offer and sought additional business in the clinical space. From the start, JH Bertrand had great success in the clinical market and added a number of sizable CMO’s and CPO's (Contract Manufacturing Organization and Clinical Packaging Organizations) to its customer list.

In 2012, we started to notice that there was increasing pressure on the pharmaceutical industry to cut costs due to patent cliffs and the upcoming Affordable Care Act. This cost-conscious attitude began to filter into clinical. At that time, JH Bertrand started a revamping of its cost structure and quality system to further lean up the organization to offer better pricing and faster response times.  In 2014, Bertrand Clinical Label was formed to put a formal name on JH Bertrand’s segregated clinical label unit.  We owe a debt of gratitude to Almedica and many of the top CMO’s in the industry for helping us to develop very a strong clinical program.

In 2020, Bertrand Clinical Label became the only focused clinical label supplier not to be owned by a larger corporate entity. This occurred when the last of the core independents was purchased by a multi-billion dollar label company. We continue to maintain the "can-do" family business atmosphere that has made us very popular with our clients.
